Mug Cake (Classic Chocolate & Apple Oats Cake)

Hey guys! The recipe I am posting today is a very simple cake recipe that can be made even by novice bakers or someone who is trying their hand at baking for the first time and wants to indulge. If you have guests coming at home and want to make an easy dessert recipe this is perfect recipe and is so hassle free and does not make too much of a mess. Both the recipes are completely different base and flavors, apple cake is healthy version and the chocolate cake is an indulgent one where you have to completely forget about the calories and just indulge in the gooey chocolate. So lets get cooking….

  • Ingredients:
  • For Classic chocolate cake:
  • Maida/Refined flour – 1/2 cup
  • Coco powder – 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • Powdered sugar – 2 tbsp
  • Baking Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Cooking soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Milk (at room temperature) – 1/2 cup
  • Choco chips – 1 tbsp
  • Milk chocolate (Morde or Carrot or Cadbury) (Roughly chopped in pieces) – 1/4 cup
  • Refined oil – 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla essence – 1/4 tsp
  • For Apple Oats cake:
  • Wheat flour – 1/4 cup
  • Oats powder (Instant rolled oats grind into powder) – 1/2 cup
  • Baking Powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Cooking soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Cinnamon powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Milk (at room temperature) – 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery powder – 2 tbsp
  • Tutti Frutti – 1 tbsp
  • Grated apple – 1/2 cup
  • Refined oil – 1 tbsp
  • Vanilla/Kewra essence – 1/4 tsp
  • Apple diced – 1/2 cup
  • Powdered sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Butter – 1 tbsp
  • Sprinklers (Optional) for garnishing

Method:

For classic chocolate cake:

1) In a microwave friendly mug mix together the maida, coco powder, powdered sugar, baking powder, cooking soda.

2) To this add the milk and mix it using a fork till there are no lumps. Now add the vanilla essence, oil and mix it again. Finally add the chopped milk chocolate pieces and mix it roughly so that the pieces are scattered in the batter. Finally on top sprinkle the choco chips.

3) Place the mug in the microwave and the power of the microwave should be set at 800. Bake the cake in the microwave for 1 minute. The cake will be firm on top but gooey inside. If you have the 30 seconds shortcut function in your microwave use that directly and bake for 60 seconds. You have to bake in the microwave mode and not convection mode.

4) Serve with vanilla ice cream scoop and chocolate syrup drizzle.

For Apple oats cake:

1) In a microwave friendly mug mix together the wheat flour, oats powder, baking powder and cooking soda.

2) To this add the milk and mix it using a fork till there are no lumps. Then add the jaggery powder and mix it well till it dissolves. Now add the vanilla/kewra essence, cinnamon powder and oil and mix it again. Finally add the grated apple and tutti frutti. Finally on top sprinkle the sprinklers of choice (optional).

4) In a non stick pan take butter. To this add the chopped apple pieces and sauté for a few seconds. Then add the powdered sugar and toss it all together on medium flame till the apples turn golden in color. Keep this aside.

5) Once the cake is ready, serve it with the above prepared apple caramel or vanilla ice cream.

The cups before baking look like this:

  8. I am good at cup cakes only 🙂 Your recipe has refined oil.Can we use butter instead of oil? The apple crumble I make is also with stewed apples but will try this cake. I am drooling at the chocolate.

    1. Yes you can use butter. Use melted butter for it to evenly mix as in mug cake the area is less.

I like the plain vanilla one. Though I make the chocolate one, I don’t like it as much as the vanilla one.
