Chakli

Hey peeps….today’s recipe holds a special place in all households in any Indian kitchen during Diwali. Diwali is celebration of lights, colors and loads and loads of yummy food being cooked. It is celebrated by lighting up your homes and making rangolis. Neighbors, family and friends meet up in each others homes and eat yummy food. Chakli/Chakri is one such item which is a common Diwali food item. There is a variety of chakli made wheat chakli, rice chakli. We normally make rice chakli which is very simple to make and I end up making chakli strips more than the round ones. At the end it is the taste that matters for me. This is my mother in law’s special recipe which we have been following  since the beginning. In this method of making chakli the chakli will not be too hard as you get in shops they will be crisp but soft to bite. So take some time out from your busy schedule and surely try this method of making rice chakli.

Ingredients:

Rice Flour- 500 gms

Salted Butter – 100 grams

Dahi/Curd – 70 grams

Salt as per taste

Ginger-Green Chilly Paste – 2 tbsp (if using the dark green spicy chilly then just 1 tbsp)

White Sesame Seeds/White Tal – 2-3 tbsp

Water for kneading – 2-3 tbsp

Oil for frying

Method:

1) In a bowl take the rice flour and butter (at room temperature) and mix it well in the flour. Now add the salt, ginger-green chilli paste, white sesame seeds and dahi and mix it all together while forming a dough.

2) The dough will not require too much water just 2-3 tbsp as both butter and curd is used. Knead a semi hard dough. Keep aside for 15 minutes.

3) After 15 minutes using the chakli maker make small or medium chaklis as per your choice and fry in oil. The oil should not be too hot. The flame should be medium.
