Green Gram Pulao/Rice

Hi everyone!! The recipe I am posting today has a sweet memory behind it. My neighbor Aunt used to make this yummy Pulao very often she used to stay alone and took up our home as her own she would send all these different yummy food items and one of my favorite was this rice dish. I really miss this dish made by her as now she is too old to cook herself. So I decided to try this myself and though her dish was the best I got quite close to her taste. It is very easy to make this rice dish and is very tasty also. So lets get cooking…

Ingredients:

Basmati/Long Grain Rice- 170 gms

Moong Dal/Whole Green Gram- 70 gms

Split Green Dal/Chilka Dal- 50 gms

Palak/Spinach (finely chopped)- 50 gms

Fenugreek (fresh)/Methi- 40 gms

Potatoes (Chopped)- 2 medium

Onion puree- 1 cup

Tomato puree – 1 cup

Ginger Garlic Paste- 2 tbsp

Green Peas- 50 gms

Ghee/Clarified Butter- 2 tbsp

Cinnamon Stick- 1/2 inch

Cloves- 3-4

Cumin Seeds- 1 tsp

Asafoetida powder- 1 tsp

Garam Masala- 2 tbsp

Red Chilli Powder- 2 tbsp

Salt as per taste Water – 3 cups

Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

1) Wash and soak the rice, moong dal and split green dal for 15 mins.

2) Take a pressure cooker. Add the ghee/clarified butter and asafoetida in the ghee let it get warm then add the cumin seeds, cloves and cinnamon stick.

3) Now add the onion puree and let it cook till it turns translucent. Now add the tomato puree, ginger garlic paste, red chilli powder, garam masala, salt and let it cook for 5 mins. After 5 mins add the moong dal, spilt green dal, spinach, fresh fenugreek, potatoes and green peas and water.

4) Finally add the basmati rice and cover the pressure cooker and cook till 6-7 whistles. Let the cooker cool down open the lid and serve hot. Garnish with coriander leaves
